• The built in speakers are not good. Get a sound bar.

• Because it's a flat screen. Almost all of them have the sound in the back because you would add a foot or more to the width or height of the TV to put the sound in front. It would also require more of everything (case plastic, parts etc) and thus raise the price more. This has, of course, fueled the entire soundbar market.
