Hello Anne, thank you for your question. Yes, the Insignia™ 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over‑the‑Range Microwave does come with a thin protective film over the control panel when it’s brand new. It can sometimes be difficult to see or peel because it’s applied very tightly to protect the surface during shipping. If you gently run your fingernail along the edge of the number pad, you should feel the film lift so you can remove it. Sudeep | Insignia
