This unit requires manual defrosting as needed.

In order to be frost free, a unit has to heat up at intervals in order to melt any frost that has built up. This is ok for items that are to be used within a month or two. After that, items subjected to the temperature changes start to get freezer burn, especially meat, poultry, and seafood. Baked goods start to go stale. With a chest freezer the temperature remains stable, and your food quality remains stable, as long as they are stored in freezer bags and/or containers.
