A:Answer The pad stays plugged in during use, it is not a portable changed, it needs AC to work. I leave it plugged in on the counter. I simply set the phone down on it and it will charge it automatically. There is also a blue LED on the unit to show it is charging your phone, it goes off when phone is removed. If a phone not compatible with wireless charging is set on top it, the LED turns red.
