“Can an Insignia TV control the soundbar volume? I bought my parents an Insiginia plasma back in 2010. The model is NS-42P650A11. I see that the NS-42P650A11 insignia HDTV has HDMI 1.3 inputs so it does not support ARC (Audio Return Channel). That was added in HDMI spec 1.4. Due to that, I did not go with a Soundbar with HDMI ports/ ARC capability as it would not be able to be utilized. I'd like to give them this Insignia soundbar if their TV remote can control the volume of the soundbar. I am hoping sticking with the same brand it will integrate better for my elderly parents. Even better, it would be nice for it to power on when it detects the optical signal and power off after 5-10 minutes of no signal detected. Thanks in advance, Steve”

Not sure about model numbers and such or ARC. I purchased this sound bar with my Insignia TV and the integration was really easy. It took a little playing with the separate sound bar remote to get the sound levels I wanted, but after that all you need to do is turn on the TV and the sound bar comes on with it. The sound bar shuts off when you turn the TV off. The sub is a different story though. I wound up plugging it in to a switched outlet so it would turn off at the end of the day. Maybe one day I'll get a smart power bar and hook it all up there. But until then this works just fine.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. My Insignia TV remote controls both the TV and Soundbar. This was actually not as convenient as you would think. Also, I was unable to keep the TV sound once I plugged in the sound bar as it took over all audio.
