I did not purchase this enclosure for this identical issue, but I do know that this will work as long as when the new laptop starts up, the enclosure containing the old operating system is connected via the provided USB cord. When the laptop is processing its programmed instructions it will search the onboard hard drive for the operating system, if the operating system is not found there it will search for it in the onboard disk player (if available) if it doesn't find it there it SHOULD search the USB connections. If it's not doing this you'll need to change the order of which the laptop searches for the O.S. You can try repeatedly tapping the F2 key immediately after the power button. If these directions are not clear, you're better off taking it to Best Buy for technical assistance.
