The nominal width of the refrigerator with door closed is 19.1" and when the door is opened, due to hinge motion and plastic trim the width increases slightly to 19.25" on the 2.6 cu ft Insignia model. This is with the door open at 90 degrees. So yes, the door will open fine in a space of width 19.75", just not past 90 degrees. If on the other hand you mean 'how much free space to you need in front of the refrigerator to be able to open the door completely?' The answer is - about 18" But that answer needs to be combined with the measurement of the depth of the refrigerator 17.5" plus a few inches space from the wall for air flow. So from back wall to outermost edge of refrigerator door when fully open you need about 37.5"
