Is the back of the unit flat ie, finished or open? null

The back is flat and finished while the bottom approximately 1/4 of the back is open.

back is flat, most stuff is in the bottom. recommended you keep it 5 inches from the wall.

It's flat, and mostly finished. There's a small section at the bottom to allow access to the compressor and for cooling. You can get it pretty close to the wall, but I would leave a little room for air-flow. The cooling coils (if there are any) are probably behind the rear panel.

It is flat and goes up against a wall great, finished the top 3/4 of the back, open a little at the bottom

It is covered just like the sides and front.
