• Yes, you have to plug your HDD directly into one of the provided slots. As long as your Acer HDD is SATA it will work.

• I think what you are asking is do you have to plug in the hard drive to a SATA slot? If that is the case the answer is no. This item allows you to plug any hard drive (including Acer) into either of the two available slots on the dock and the dock then can be connected via USB 3.0 to your computer.

• You plug the hd into one of the two slots. It is comparable is 2.5 and 3.5 sata hard drives.
