• It uses USB 3.0 and is backwards compatible with all USB versions.

• Yes they work on 2.0 USB just fine.

• It should work with USB 2 but it will be slower. I don't know if Win XP will have the drivers you need to use it. Only SATA drives will work in it, so SSD's are fine. Again XP may not have the drivers you need.
