• sound is fixed from output. Volume of external device is controlled by external device.

• Output is fixed and volume is adjusted by external device or external device remote. There is an option under audio settings to turn off TV speakers so that only the sound of the external device is heard. I say external device because it can be a sound bar, stereo receiver, or other devices.
