“Is the freezer door supposed to have a slight hitch? as i close it to about 6 inches...the door slows and requires slightly more effort to close. or is it supposed to be smooth all the way to close like normal fridge doors? the fridge part is smooth.”

Inasmuch as mine does the same, I am guessing that this is an intentional design construct so that the freezer door, which is very light and well-balanced, is not accidentally slammed shut, which would eventually cause it to misalign or possibly break the hinge.
