This device is shaped like a cassette tape, so it will plug into a cassette deck like, for example, one in your car. From there, the attached cable can be plugged into the headphone jack on an external audio device. So... since you asked about MP3s, you could plug the provided cable into the headphone jack on your portable MP3 player (iPod or other similar player) or a smartphone or really anything that has a standard headphone jack. In short, this device allows you to send audio out of a headphone jack directly into a cassette deck.
