• I have used this cable for all three purposes, but of course the cable must be plugged into compatible devices. For instance; one of the places this cable is used is between a MacBook Pro and an LG monitor. The monitor is plugged into power the power is passed through the cable to charge the Mac, as well as supplying the video and pass-through for data.

• I have this cable hooked up to a USB-C monitor via a Surface Dock 2 without any issues. Sound also comes through my monitor speakers without problem. There are no USB ports on my monitor, so I can't say if it will handle the video and data simultaneously, but given what it's doing for me (video and sound), I would suspect it would handle it.
