Elsewhere in the question List It mentions three to four inches of space on either side to prevent it from overheating and to make sure it can do the job. But even if that weren't needed it seems to me that like most things even wood floors it would expand and contract ever so slightly by temperature, it was plugged in or not and you might have a problem if you cut it that closely. Plus if you're needing it flush against the wall behind as well where will the cord go?
