You might want to check page 13 of the user guide. Check www.insigniaproducts.com for the on-line manual. If it's an older DVD recorder you may only have the AV/RCA type connectors (three plugs- red, white and yellow I think) on both ends. The Insignia has AV plugs for this purpose. You should be able to play your DVD on the Insignia, but not sure you would be able to record from the Insignia to your DVD recorder. Looks like the plugs on the back are inputs not outputs. Just don't know for sure.
