“Is it normal the child lock when off seems to still function. When washer is running and we open the lid it's locked and we have to pull up on it twice even though the child lock is off.”

The lid locks automatically when the machine starts running. If you need to open it at any time during a cycle, hit the start/pause button. The cycle pauses and the lid unlocks. To continue, close the lid and hit the start/pause button again.
