Hello, thank you for your question. This TV set is equipped with closed captioning control that is designed to work with an over the air antenna, direct cable signals and certain analog cable boxes. To enable it, you can access the television's menu on the accessibility option and selecting "Closed Captioning" or by pressing the CCD button on the set's remote control. Keep in mind that with some HD cable boxes, the captions will have to be enabled from the box itself and not the TV set. Regards, Daniel T. - Insignia Support.

Thank you for asking this question as there are many situations where people may benefit from being able to enjoy the TV viewing experience enhanced by closed captioning. If you go on the website Insigniaproducts.com and enter the "model" number of this television and then click onto "supports & downloads" and then click on "user guide," you will find a whole list of topics which this Online Insignia products user guide addresses. In my opinion, it is hard to beat the user friendly nature of the user guides, etc. provided on this Insignia products website. The closed caption instructions can be found on page 59 of the user guide. For your ease of access/review, I will provide the following--"lifted" directly from that Insignia user guide for this particular 40" TV model: Using the TV's remote control, click on "MENU" => highlight and click onto "ACCESSIBILITY" => press enter => highlight "CLOSED CAPTION" => press enter => highlight "CAPTION CONTROL" and highlight "ON" --OR-- "OFF." To get back to watching your programming, please click "EXIT." I hope that this information helps you and others Foothills!
