I've installed feet on different sizes and models of Insignia TVs that I've purchased so I am understanding of what "may" have happened in your case. You submitted your question only 24 "minutes" ago at the beginning of this writing and I'd like to try and help you. I am thinking that the problem "may" have occurred as at the base of many of the Insignia Brand TVs' chassis my experiences have shown that there are several "opportunities" to introduce or position the actual "top" portions of the plastic legs--the part which makes contact with the base of the chassis and pushes into the proper "cavity." I know that you did not ask this; however, for those engaging in "initial" set up in the future with Insignia Brand TVs and when "you" attempt to re-attach your TV set's legs (if you decide to do so in the future!), I would suggest the following: take a flashlight or a lighted magnifying glass and point it into the direction of the base of the TV's chassis. Prior to making contact between the TV's legs and the TV's lower chassis I have already placed the screws inside of the legs--one leg at a time! Be "careful" not to invert the legs in any way during the process as they may be lost, etc. With the light illuminating things and the screws sticking out of the top of each leg you can more clearly see how to align the screw holes. Again, please make certain that the screws don't drop on the floor, into the TV, etc! My experience has been that many times there are "more" than what "appear to be" two (2) screw holes for each leg and, in addition, there are "odd-shaped" cavities on the bottom edge of of the Insignia Brand TV's chassis which I've seen which can further confuse things. I believe that these cavities or compartments were molded that way to provide a greater degree of structural integrity to the TV's chassis base. So that your warranty has less of a chance of being voided and so that you can use the factory supplied legs in the future in, hopefully an undamaged state, prior to protecting the legs with, say, a towel and gently tapping them out, I would phone Insignia Products tech support at 1-877-467-4289 between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 9:00 P.M. central time--7 days per week. You have a situation where plastic is wedged into plastic and because both the plastic which make up the legs and the TV's chassis probably have some degree of yielding qualities, prying them apart may result in irreversible damage--like cracking! It's probably a "tight" fit! Please don't forget that if you don't want to do a "wall" mount in the future if severe damage results in the process of the leg(s) removal and you can't use the factory legs, you still have the option to use a 200mm X 200mm VESA standard center mount "tabletop" stand. I have provided a digital photo attachment of one below. It is the VIVO Brand model # STAND-TV00J. It will work with 32" to 47" flat screen TVs that have 50mm to 400mm and will support up to 80 lbs. If you do use a product like an aftermarket tabletop stand or a wall mount please remember to use the recommended screws (X4) size which Insignia Products recommends for this model. Unfortunately, as of this writing, I do not believe that the "FULL" Online user manual is available is available for this TV; however, an Insignia tech support representative can send you one via E-mail. Again, this question which you present Best Buy customer jerrymo has the potential of helping a lot of other Best Buy customers thinking about purchasing this great TV set.
