I'm not an electrician so I can't answer this question but there may be a way to cut off the end and seal the wires. But if you cut off 15' you will be losing 5 lights because they are spaced 3' apart. If you shorten the cord from the plug end you might be able to put a new plug on and save all the lights. I would get some advice from an expert before attempting this. We had a similar problem and solved it by wrapping the cord down the pole on our patio and put a plant stand in front of it which created a back light for the plants and looks very nice. Hope this helps.
