We turn it on with the Fire remote and the switch to cable and use the cable remote. Very easy, but yes 2 controllers.

It is strongly recommended to use the included remote to fully control your TV. 
Also you can download the Amazon Fire TV app on your smartphone to control your TV. 
The replacement remote for the Fire TV Edition TV is available at Best Buy, Model: NS-RCFNA-19.
