This is a 3 conductor cable, with one conductor for the left audio channel, a second conductor for the right audio channel, and a third wire for a common ground. The 1/8 inch plug has a tip, a ring and a sleeve for the 3 conductors. Look at the plug of your headset. You should see some kind of 4 conductor plug, with a 4th conductor for the microphone. You need to find an extension cable with a socket to match your plug and 4 conductors.

You want to find something that has three notches that third not being the ability to send audio back through the cable. Cheers!
