• Yes, assuming your blu ray player AND surround sound system have a connection for digital co-ax. I use it for exactly this purpose.

• Yes, this cable can be used to connect other devices including a Blue Ray/DVD to to your home theater component/receiver. However, verify that both the DVD player and home theater have digital audio connections (Blue Ray player output and home theater input). Both the DVD and home theater must have this connection. This cable will only carry an audio signal (no video). In addition, I believe it will only carry up to 5.1 audio.
