Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hello Pennie, This connects your computer’s HDMI port to a monitor or projector’s DVI-D port. (Note: This cable converts HDMI output to a DVI-D input. It does not convert a DVI-D output to a HDMI input.) Connect to displays with single/dual link DVI-D (digital) ports or single/dual DVI-I (integrated) ports. (Not compatible with DVI-A (analog) ports.) Please try again later. If you have a Port on the side of your laptop or monitor that is shaped like the DVI part that fits in and screws into your laptop (like it would to a computer) and you have a HDMI (HD plug type port) on you monitor or vice versa, then you can connect it that way. I didn't have an HDMI port or DVI port on my not too old HP laptop. But my Dell monitors had a HDMI plug (kind of slim flat plug in opening in back of monitor) so I plugged the HDMI cord part into monito And attached the part with the 'screws' to the back of my desktop. If you could post photos of what the sides of the base of your laptop look like and back of your monitor, someone can likely answer this correctly for you. Dell is a good monitor but I've owned insignia too but you need to make sure on that price range what ports/plug ins come with it.
