Batteries are an electricity source, but I know of no shredder that runs on batteries. It is a standard 120V AC wall plug for the source of power and will operate on just about any wall plug. It doesn't draw an excessive amount of power to require any more than a normal 15A circuit.

Shredder operates using 120 volts AC from regular electrical outlet in home or office. What's cool is standby mode allowing you use every time you need to. It's not as big as mine where I work but good enough for use at home.
