“Is there a way to tune the hinge tension? The lid flys open with ridiculous amount of force compared to any other chest freezer. This is the first time I have had an empty freezer almost tip over just from opening the lid.”

I don’t think so; never was a concern for me. I mean the price is right for what it is. A higher price might get you a better lid.
