Overall, a very decent freezer, especially for the price point. Will get quite as cold as well; I have it set at about 85% of max and it is holding at -10 degrees in the deeper section, right around 0 degrees in the basket/open air. These temps make it great for storing meats near the bottom while still allowing storage of other items near the top in baskets (a second basket would be GREAT if anyone finds one!). Would give it 4 1/2 stars if it were an option. Other points, the physical size is great and any home should be able to accommodate the freezer space wise Energy usage is also good and the freezer will operate fine on a 15amp circuit, but highly recommend a dedicated circuit - see notes below. Only cons is that the freezer may be a little deep for some people's tastes (a sacrifice to reduce the footprint/physical size), its a little difficult to rummage through the bottom. Also, the top door is spring loaded making it light and easy to open..but, it is a little too loaded, it will fly open if you do not hold on to it :) Overall, an excellent buy! NOTE: I was able to measure energy usage (using my settings above, about 85% of max) and averaged 1.1 kWh/day (or about 400 kW per year) @ ~1amp with the compressor running. Startup current never crossed 10amps; hence my conclusion that the freezer should be fine on a regular 15amp circuit. Keep in mind my energy use will probably decrease over time once everything is truly cooled down and we stop "playing" with the new toy lol Note 2: Remember that even though the freezer can run on a regular circuit, NEVER USE A REGULAR SURGE PROTECTOR OR UPS DEVICE with any freezer/fridge!!!!

Ordered based on good reviews and excellent price compared to competitors. The item was packaged very well (do dents or scratches), and very convenient to remove the top and side packaging, and simply lift the unit off of the bottom packaging when moving into place. Installed in a spare bedroom in the house. Reached sub-freezing temps quickly (per the time specified in the instructions) and has kept all the long storage items frozen solid since (now a month later). We have also used it as a blast chiller for items on a sheet pan (like chocolate or caramel) very effectively, and they set up very quickly. As others have indicated, getting some plastic containers to organize all the items in the bottom of the unit will be useful, as the single basket sliding along the top organizes very little of the overall capacity. I have been running it on MAX, so I suppose I cannot comment on the temperature controls for higher temp settings, as I have no reason to ever do so. I did tighten the access screws to the side ventilation screen after install, as they were initially buzzing when the compressor was running, and perhaps loosened during shipment. Now the unit is VERY quiet, and we hardly know it is even there. About the only thing I would have wished for was our local Best Buy to have at least a couple in stock (as I was ready to install it the day of purchase), and I needed to wait almost a week to have it shipped to the store (not sure from where). IMO, the whole point of buying from a local store is the expediency you gain from having items in-stock, and is about the only benefit over ordering on-line, which would have had about the same shipping window, and would have avoided the extra trip down to the store. It did, however, arrive when they indicated it would arrive, and I was promptly notified by email for pick-up. All in all however, very satisfied with the construction and operation of the unit, which matters the most to me.

I love the chest freezer!! It keeps everything frozen, and works great, runs quiet!! I would have given it 5 stars if I wasn't on my second chest freezer in almost three years!! There was a problem with the drain spout, the water was running out the drain plug so slow, and it usually runs really fast when you are cleaning it out!! There had to be a problem that the drain plug was clogged. I had to call Geek Squad, and they said they do not do In home Service for Chest Freezers, you would have to take it to the nearest Best Buy Store. Because I don't drive, I called the store, and because I had the 3 year Protection Geek Squad plan, they sent another one out for FREE!!! Basically because my plan, still covered it! All I had to do was purchase a new Protection plan which was around 70 bucks because my older one was going to end in May, I was going to renew the old one, but hey A new freezer AND I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY A DIME FOR IT ,WAS GREAT!!! By the way, no one could tell me how to unclog the drain, if this ever happens again, the only thing they said was, well if it happens again we will just send you another one out!!!! I would love to keep my chest freezer for years and years to come, instead of every two and a half years!!!

This freezer is an amazing size for storing extra meat & food. We have it in our basement, where it seemed to very quickly reach freezing temperatures. I had a thermometer in it that showed -10 degrees F. That was just with the setting at about 3/4 of the max. I have since dropped it to right in the middle, and it's held its temps great. I have a smart outlet on it that also monitors energy usage. For a 24-hour period, I see it taking up 0.58 kWh. I'd say it's at that utilization most days, with some dips below 0.56 kWh. So to better quantify this for those that care, my energy rate is currently. $0.072 / kWh. At 0.58 kWh for 30-days, my added electric usage amounts to about an added $1.25 for the month.

Got it on a great sale (think price of a new freezer half it's volume) with store pickup a month ago, box was well intact and no damage to it nor product. The freezer is light enough to maneuver around by yourself though there's not really a good way to lift without a 2nd person helping. I let it settle upright for close to 48hrs and have since kept the arrow opposite of min (70% to max maybe?). Unit has kept everything very cold, very well. We even had a recent 22hr power outage and an icicle that previously expanded out of a novelty ice mold sitting in the top basket didn't even melt a drop, unlike the softening/melting in my fridge's freezer. Power cord is about 6ft long which is perfect for where I wanted to put the freezer. Only thing that would make it better is more baskets to have up top (like everyone else has stated), but we all knew what we were getting when we bought it.

The Insignia 7 cubic foot chest freezer is one of the best values that I have ever purchased. We always are lacking for freezer capacity even with our extra fridge in the garage. We didn't have room for a large chest freezer and this fit right into the small area we had. The extra capacity was just enough to unclutter our freezers in the refrigerators and give us enough extra room to take advantage of meats or other frozen foods when they are on sale. It is working great. The lid seals well and it is a great bargain regarding cost and space efficiency. Also it is not exceptionally heavy so it is easy to move. It is 37.5 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 33 inches tall and needs a 50 inch vertical space to be able to open the door far enough to get food in and out comfortably.

I needed a freezer for a large purchase of meat (i.e., a purchase the wife made). She was going to buy the 5cu ft version of this because it was cheap in price. We were about to get over 200lbs in meat, so I had to intervene. The rule of thumb is about 1cu ft per 40lbs. At 5cu ft we would have been maxed out on space, so the 7cu ft would do. To also conserve some space in the garage this model was adequate for our needs. I wanted the larger model with the lock feature, but I did not “need” it. This freezer was light, easy to load, unload, move, start up, and started getting cold fast once plugged in. It’s everything I would expect from a brand new freezer. I’ve only had it a month, so seeing how long it lasts in the garage is the next step.

We have a large family, with 2 adults and 4 kids. We often buy food in bulk, especially if it's on sale. This sometimes means we ended up hoarding and storing large amounts of frozen food. This freezer was the perfect solution for us. We keep this in the basement, and it's a good size to store all our frozen food. The 7.0 cubic inch size is the one we purchased. We picked it up and transported it home in my minivan. It wasn't too heavy, and the only thing you needed to do was unpack it and plug it in. It's quiet, stores a decent amount of food, and the price was just right. If you don't care about buying a non-name brand appliance, then this is a no brainer. I've had the freezer for 2 months now, no complaints.

We originally went in to BB to check out the Insignia 5.0 cu. ft. freezer for a higher price. While the sales person was scrolling only e, we noticed this bigger one for a lower price. We didn't need this much room but for the price, why not? It took no time to start getting cold, and we live having the extra room. Now when we shop if we want a lot of frozen food, we can! It comes with the basket, and one square platform on the bottom right side. It keeps it's temp even in our garage here in FL, and our temps have been up to 117 lately.

I purchased this freezer to replace one I've had for many years. I ordered it in store without seeing it. It was geek squad delivered yesterday with a medium size dent in the front out the box. I was told this is common for this unit. They offered me 10% off which was no deal for me to have to look at that ugly dent for years to come, hopefully, so I chose their offer to leave it now and exchange it later. It's very lightweight and has a strong seal. While trying to lift the lid the whole unit slid back, I had to get a butter knife to relase the tenson of the seal, I hope this improves. I like the feature of the lid staying open, although you have to be careful while lowering the lid as it will slam shut. Overall I think it is a great buy at 169.00.

While the price seemed right, the unit had a couple of serious defects. After it got cold I opened it to put frozen food in and closed it. When I tried to open it again it stuck/sealed so firmly that I could not get it open. This happened repeatedly. I had to wait 15 to 30 minutes to get it open again. This means you have to leave it open for extended periods if you want to load multiple items. This is not energy efficient. Another more serious problem is that this freezer has that cheap aluminum foil insulation so that if you drop anything while loading it, the bottom or sides dent. The concern is not only the look but also the material could be easily punctured. I recommend not buying this.

Freezer is amazing, very large and we only have it roughly 50% of the way towards the coldest setting and its -17 degrees (very cold!) Cant really beat the price either (especially when its on sale) Delivery guys were rockstars! They called before they arrived and were very funny / caring. Brought the unit downstairs and even unboxed everything / took away the trash. Way to go! Ordering was pretty bad though. I had been trying to order either the 5 cubic feet or 7 cubic feet model for about 2 months and it would always say its instock but when I went to check out it would pull the item out of my cart due to "low stock" - Seemed like this unit was perpetually out of stock for delivery which I call BS on. (I have my reasons but I wont bore anyone) All in all im happy but I wish I could have gotten it sooner.

I was replacing an old fridge freezer combo for my garage I had recently purchased a commercial fridge but I still needed a freezer I found this freezer at Best Buy it had great reviews so I took a chance and I couldn’t be happier. I initially wanted a smaller size but I couldn’t pass up the extra room and I am pleasantly surprised and how cold it keeps everything I put in it. From ice to additional food storage. I keep steaks, ground beef, chicken plus I still have plenty of room for drinks, and ice cream Love my new freezer

Best Chest Freezer for its price! Pros **On Sale, so far, its over a year and still on great shape! **Spacious **Food is safe and sealed! Frozen Completely Cons **Can get icy when left open, don't let it open so long or else ice accumulates fast! Just make sure to be careful when putting stuff coz it could make some dent inside! Tips ** Adjust the thermostat according to your need! I played it a little higher or lower the middle setting and place digital thermostat to make sure I'm getting the right temperature inside! Overall Its the best buy especially if you need extra space and storage for food! Just the right size for us! Will definitely buy again in the future with Insignia!

    Damaged Lid

I've only had the freezer setup for a few days now, so this isn't a review of how it works. I'm giving it 3 stars at the moment due to damage to the lid. I don't know whether it will have any impact on the performance of the freezer, but it's too much of a pain to return it to the store and pickup another one. Just putting it up here for now so there's a record of it. I'll update later on the performance. Cyber week price was great though. If it weren't for the damage, and it works as advertised, this would be 5 stars.

Freezer is surprisingly light and easy to move to the location I wanted. It arrived in perfect condition from the shippers who removed the shipping container for inspection and carried away the boxes. The freezer is rated highly at Consumer Reports and costs only $26 per year to run so is energy efficient. The inside is large with a two wire baskets which slide for upper layer storage. It is not self defrosting, but if I will worry about that later. There were not many self defrosting freezers that are energy efficient. It freezes very well which is of course the purpose. It also has a nice light on the door so it illuminates the storage area well when the door is open

price and delivery were very good. freezer itself is underpowered(?) we let the delivery guys roll it in, set it up, and plug it in. we waited until morning to fill it with bottles of water. first, 2/3 full. half the bottles were still liquid the next morning. we tried 3/4, 1/2, 1/3................still, never more than half the items are frozen the next day. this has gone on since july 12th, when it was delivered. it's now aug. 10th, so we have a 7.1 size with a 2.0 ability. i wanted to like it as i've bought your brand before and it's always been great quality. not with this freezer.

If you're looking to save money and get functionality to freeze extra food, this freezer works. I gave it a fair rating bc that's how I felt the quality and energy efficiency of this freezer is. You do get what you pay for. After a few days indoors, and not opening the freezer, my temps were not zero or below (i had to turn the freezer to coldest setting to achieve 0 to -5) and there was frost around the top ring of the freezer where the seal is. Manual defrosting will be a frequent process. Cosmetics are decent and it does come with a small basket. There is no lock and you'll need to buy a thermometer to ensure proper temps.

First, as per some other reviews, I had the store personnel open the box to check for dings and dents. It was perfect, so I had it re-boxed and I took it home. I put it in place, waited the 2 hours as per instructions, checked it for level, then plugged it in and set the control to 50%. The compressor is extremely quiet. I sneaked a peak at 1/2 hour, and it was already down to 6 degrees. And, by the way, as per other reviews/questions, the little blue light is on as long as the freezer is plugged in. It stays on whether the compressor is on or not. This looks like it will be a great purchase, especially at the price I paid.

I read reviews of multiple freezers before I bought this one. I also had a limited amount of space to put the new appliance. I was not sure if this size was enough, but I took a shot and bought it. I am completely happy with the product at this time. I works well, it is quite compact in size for the amount of food that it holds. The top is quite secure, and raises easily. The body is not so tall that I cannot reach to the bottom, and that is a big plus. It is quiet, seems very efficient, and frosts up much less than I thought it would. I really like this 7 CF model, and I recommend it.
