“I tried 2 new Insignia HDMI to HDMI micro on my new Samsung Freestyle trying to have laptop display on projector with no success - ran the 2 min test in projector set up and I got "Bad cable - use only certified cable" - is this not a "certified" product?”

This cable will not work because it is a single direction cable. It works like this, you can connect a camera or something that will send a signal to the tv. It will not work the other way. Say you were trying to connect a playstation or xbox or any brocasted device from the hdmi stadard side it will not send the singnal back to said brocasted device like a projector. You need a bidirectional cable for that to work.
