“My original cable for the iPad Air was fraying around the plug to the iPad, now just quit on me! Will this work using the original adapter? If not, any other suggestions? Thanks!”

That should work without any issue. Or use the same Wall adapter from my iPhone I just plug in this cord and works fine

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I use it to charge my iPad mini and my iPhone 6 all the time. Works fine.
