Yes you can leave the batteries in the charger. I'm not too sure what will happen if you over charge them. But I usually take them out as soon as they're fully charged.

Yes, when they're finish charging you'll have to unlock the batteries so they don't over charge. The batteries can sit in the charge as long as they not pushed out the way in.
