“I purchased this adapter to connect my HP laptop with my HP monitor but it doesn't work. However the same adapter works when I connect to my Insignia monitor. Does this adapter doesn't support HP monitors at all?”

Small oval to hdmi didn't work for me ,because needs powerboard to support ,so I used USB adapter to hdmi to tv work great ,plug and play.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I tried the adapter on my HP Elitebook and it didn’t work either. Then I moved it to my Dell desktop and it worked. It think it may be firmware limitations or compatibility issue depending on the age of your laptop. The adapter doesn’t care lol

Please try again later.Usually with HP laptops and others depending on age, sometimes you have to look for the FN key and then a key on the numbers row that looks like a couple of monitors. Some Have multiple functions like on/off, mirror your laptop or act as a desktop extender. Sometimes these settings have to be changed under the display properties depending on which version of Windows you are using
