• Yes you can have the charger plugged in at the same time as the HDMI input.

• No. Connecting the power adapter will power the projector and preserve the battery charge. It will not add charge to the battery. Once the projector is off, it will charge the battery. Charging the battery while the projector is operating would increase the internal temperature beyond acceptable limits. Daniel T. - Insignia Support
