• Just for kicks, try an old pair of headphones and see if it's able to help your reception. I know on my phone, it doesn't even work without headphones to use the built-in FM (NextRadio), and I think this might use the same concept. So, give this a try in a pinch.

• No, HD is transmitted just as AM or FM, and is free. In my area, northern Kentucky, so far the HD stations I have found are both PBS stations located in Louisville, KY.
