• Yes you can use this in the basement. Mount towards an outside wall for best reception.

• Basement, maybe. Are there any Windows you can place it by. Also you could get a cable of 10 to 20 feet and a 2 female ended coupler may help to reach a window. You could possibly mount outdoors as the antenna material is incased in hard plastic. Use a clear plastic bag placed over the antenna and seal it with a plastic tie strap to protect it from outdoor environment/ weather. The Insignia Model NS-ANT715 has a range of 40 to 50 miles. Most channels should come in crisp and clear. My old amplified antenna only got 24 channels, with the Insignia I have 42 channels or 18 more than I did have.
