• No if you plug in you can use either key board.

• I use a MacBook pro 13 inch late 2011 model and it recognized the keyboard when I pugged it in. It did this automatically right when I plugged it in, even when at the login screen.

• Yes, this is exactly how it worked for me on my MacBook Pro. I just plugged it in to the MacBook, and used this keyboard instead of the keyboard on the laptop.
