“For external speakers, does it have to go though an amplifier or can it plug directly into wired speakers? I know it would require mini plug and phono plug cable hardware. Also, will it shut off after playing or does just the disk stop?”

I connect my external speakers to my Insignia FM tuner CD/MP3 player directly using the speaker cable connection. There's a hole on the front of the player for the speaker cable to plug into. The hole is marked 'Line Out'. That's all.
