It sounds like they are not paired. When you lift the headphones the blue light should be on on the base and headphones indicating that they are paired. After listening when you place the headphones on the unit jiggle them around a little if the red charging light does not come on. When fully charged the light will change from red to green

When picking them up I believe it happens from inadvertently hitting the blue tooth control on the headset itself. This starts a search for a transmitter, and to reconnect you must place them back on the stand for a few seconds. Once the blue light on the stand stops flashing and goes solid they are reconnected. This is the only cause/solution that I have concluded. Interested in other thoughts. I really like the headset and they seem to work well, but the controls on the headset are in a bad location and can easily be inadvertently activated. This is a nuisance but for me the pros outweigh the cons!
