When the batteries are done charging, the light turns green (from red, for charging) and it stops charging. The batteries don’t get hot or overheat at all, which surprised me given how fast it charges. You’re safe to leave the batteries in, and it’s designed to work that way. Each battery pack has its own little red/green light so you can easily tell if they’re done or if they’re charging.
