If the holes don't line up, it's one of two problems. You either inserted the post into the base incorrectly, or the holes were drilled incorrectly. Remove the post and re-insert, look for the location of the holes before you do this. If the holes have been drilled incorrectly, I would exchange the TV stand for a new one. The post and base are supporting a lot of weight, and you do not want any shifting or slippage. It could cause your TV to fall over.
