I was sold this adapter and I have a Lenovo Laptop that cannot seem to connect the HP monitors when they are plugged into the adapter. Is this adapter compatible with a Lenovo or do I need to download another software? null

No additional software needed. Adpater is 3.0, ensure your USB is at least
2.0, not sure it willl work, but I have a Dell with a 2.0 USB. port, connected two monitors and it works.
Remember to turn off the monitor, may need to reboot the computer before adding the monitors. 
Add the adapter, wait for the computer to recognize it, then add the monitors one at a time.

Try to run Windows Update on your computer and make sure your computer is connected to the internet. The driver should install automatically.

This device works with USB 3.0. make sure you are using a fast USB port. Also, make sure the computer recognize the USB devices, then you could see the video.
