No additional software needed. Adpater is 3.0, ensure your USB is at least 2.0, not sure it willl work, but I have a Dell with a 2.0 USB. port, connected two monitors and it works. Remember to turn off the monitor, may need to reboot the computer before adding the monitors. Add the adapter, wait for the computer to recognize it, then add the monitors one at a time.
