I have both and the speaker with the battery is larger and has a down firing woofer which makes it sound much better than the smaller unit. I also have a google home and the larger insignia is much better sounding than the Google home as well. Much louder and balanced sound. My kids can fill the basement with music from the large insignia voice.

The portable version is also louder, though I'm not sure it sounds "better" (I think they both sound great for the money). If I had $130.00, I would get two of the smaller Insignia speakers versus one of the Google Home speakers. After a month of use, these Insignia speakers continue to impress me.

It's also bigger and the sound is very loud with some good bass. I own 2 Google Home devices and 4 Google Home Minies, this Insignia speaker is my favorite, love taking it to the patio while I cook carne asada!
