I think the 10700K is the best bang for your buck with unlocked cores and overclocking capability. However, it uses the new LGA 1200 socket type which your current motherboard that housed your CPU will not fit.

But yes, this is definitely a worth-getting processor. The 10th Gen Intel® Core™ processors are fine-tuned with intelligent performance optimizations like Intel® Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 and Intel® Speed Optimizer for extracting maximum computing power from your system. Thank you for choosing Intel

I came from a 9600K, which was still a great chip even today, but some of the newer AAA games are starting to slowly utilize more resources. The 10700K’s 8c/16t may seem like a but of overkill to some gamers, but I like knowing that I have that extra ‘breathability’ when my PC needs it. Pair it with a good GPU, you’re set for a good 3-5 years. Now for your question on compatibility, you would need a new Z490 motherboard. I would highly stray away from the Asus Strix Mobo if you play through ethernet, numerous problems with that ethernet LAN port. Also, some of the Z490 motherboards will support 11th gen PCI 4.0 with a BIOS update. Happy building!
