“I see this unit comes with a remote button and cable. Does this KVM switch also function like earlier units I have purchased, that will change source computers by double tapping the Scroll Lock Key? Or must the remote button be used? Thanks in advance”

Just tried on mine and doesn't seem to work. However the button is really small so won't really notice that it's there until you need it.
