It will go from room to room until it completes the entire area. It will handle the shag rugs without a problem.

Please try again later.Ours manages 9 rooms, hallways and entry on the first floor with carpet, tile & throw rugs Granted not all nine rooms are done on a single battery charge - usually 2-3 cleaning cycles to get it all. Depending on how 'light or stiff' the throw rugs are will determine whether they vacuum or wad up/move.

Depending on the area of coverage, your robot may need to recharge itself before a mission is complete though. As for the throw rugs, how Roomba responds depends a bit on how deep the shag is. If unusually deep, any robotic vacuum will struggle to get a thorough clean.
