• Run time on the 960 is 75 minutes VS 120 minutes on the 980, plus suction power is higher on the 980.

• 980 has 10 times suction mode for when it hits carpet or area rugs. 960 does not. we have 3 pets and area rugs, carpet and tile. 980 handles all of them easily.

• we asked the same question and found that the 980 has the newest more powerful motor for turbo clean on carpets etc and a larger battery offering double the run time of the 960. Everything else is the same from what I found. Hope This Helps.
