Does it require batteries? null

Yes this need Batteries. It take 4 D sized batteries that are NOT included but they last a long time.

It Takes Four ( D ) Size Batteries Or You Can Buy The Optional Power Cord.

The unit works with either Batteries (4 "D" cell) or an AC adapter. Adapter is sold separately as are the batteries. Adapter would require a wall outlet near by. Batteries have lasted over a month so far in my unit, so can't really give you a life expediency on them,

The Trashcan uses 4 D size batteries, but can also utilize an optional AC power Adapter sold separately.
