The Ergonomic Monitor Mount can clamp onto a desk or table edge that is up to approximately 2 inches thick.

Three (3) inches easy. My desk top is 1 inches thick with a 1/4 inch glass cover on top. My 19 inch monitor is clamped on my desk leaving at least 2 inches of extra clearance.
