“I just purchased this for my 4th Gen iPad Air. When I plug in my unpowered 5TB HDD, the drive light comes on but the iPad does not see it. It does see my 256GB thumb drive, however. Please explain.”

• since your hdd is unpowered you need to plug this in to the powered usb port (the one with the lightning bolt). If you have done that and it still does not work then I don't have a solution for you. Thus, I hope that it does work!

• An External HDD has a spinning disk inside, which requires more power to turn on then a thumb drive. HDD are required to directly connect to a computer or desktop for full functionality.
