As long as you have the settings in your system setting adjusted to allow you to not have to open the Laptop to use it maybe in you power options

Please try again later.If you would like to use the docking station to connect an external display while you have the laptop lid closed, you may need to just change a few settings within the Windows Power Option. From Power Options, select on "Additional power settings". From this window, select "Choose what closing the lid does", along the left-pane. From this window, click on the drop-down menu "When I close the lid:" and change the selected option for "On battery" and "Plugged in" to "Do nothing".
