Hi John, I have the same earbud. I thought the noise cancelling was suppose to block out the noise when you are talking. My husband and I each have one and there is not noise cancelling on ours. It is real irritating when there are loud noises that come through and hurts your ears. But I have not found one that really does a good job at that anyway.

Please try again later.Hi John, From my experience, the noise cancelling part automatically cancels the noise around you so that the person you are talking to can't hear it as much. But if you are in an EXTREMELY loud place or the noise around you is very close to you, then the person on the other end will probably complain. You will probably still hear noise from the other end of the person you are talking to especially if they are in an extremely loud area, but it has to be REALLY loud. For the most part, it cancels the noise around me so I'm not bothering the person I'm talking to. Not sure if the phone you are using makes a difference, but FYI, I am using an iPhone 6 right now.
